FESTIVAL FOR ELECTRONIC MUSIC AND RELATED ARTS

Rokolectiv Festival is back for its 7th edition between 19th and 22nd of April in Bucharest's MNAC (Museum of Contemporary Art) and the National University of Music, with an exquisite mix of performances, installations and film screenings.
This year’s festival opens on Thursday 19th at the National University of Music with a special performance of German pianist Hauschka, a playful unorthodox intervention that explores and influences the outcome of piano music. Hauschka’s concert will be followed by the muggy, 80s-influenced dreamscapes of Estonian born singer Maria Minerva, 100 % Silk’s lo-fi diva who manipulates vocals, grooves and over-sexed Euro-pop mannerisms.
On Friday, the festival returns at the MNAC, taking over the 4th floor with installations & screenings in the médiateque, and live performances on the terrace fully covered by a transparent structure. Dixonwill headline the first day with one of his carefully-crafted dance sets, and fresh-faced London duoDisclosure will showcase their peculiar brand of 2-step and R&B-tronica. Romanian Black Sea beat-maker Anadolchioi will make his first live appearance under this moniker with a project inspired by eurodance, turbo-folk and juke, and Origami Sounds’s head artist Herne will deliver his highly emotional, top-notch set.
On Saturday, Berlin adopted Bulgarians of 1000 names will present their wonky beat textures, and Portland’s psych-house band The Miracles Club will relive the glory days of clubbing with their blissful time machine number reminiscent of the late ‘80s/early ‘90s, big pants, Soul II Soul, Coogi sweaters, and Studio Line hair gel. Chilean Matias Aguayo will color the night with his sensual half live-half DJ set surfing through house, swing, italo-disco, kwaito, tribal huarachero, cumbia and Colombian champeta. Saturday night also sees the return of Romanian maestro Sillyconductor who plays around nostalgia with an improvised network of generic pop bordering microtonal acoustics, harpsichord robotics drenched in bass, subliminal cheesy disco and percussion.
Sunday means Scarlatti Goes Electro and their quirky updated version of classical Versailles tunes, and 19 years old Glasgow producer Koreless with a 2-step set of the most serene kind. The Berlin via Bristol golden child in somber pose Emika is also a guest of the night, bringing pop realms and dingy warehouse grime together. Eventually, the festival will close with a wild ride mastered by pure Chicago juke/footwork dons DJ Rashad & DJ Spinn.
Not to miss, like every year, the side program of installations and screenings that accompanies the music program. This year’s highlights are German artist’s Nik Novak sound-tank installation, Panzer, displayed and performed live on Saturday in front of the museum, as well as Michel and André Décosterd’s sound sculpture Cycloid-E, a monster metallic-pendulum roaring on the ground floor of MNAC.
