DAY 3

Welcome to our Frequenza Festival!

Our third day, The Grand Concerto, brings the unparalleled beauty and versatility of chamber music to the forefront. This evening is a celebration of both intimate moments and grand, plenary musical landscapes. From the lyrical depth of Schumann to the passionate grandeur of Franck, this program is an intricate tapestry of sound—each piece a jewel that will linger in your memory long after the last note fades.

The evening opens with Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro for Horn and Piano, Op. 70, reimagined for flügelhorn and piano and performed by Sergei Nakariakov and Maria Meerovitch.

Next, we experience Martinů’s 3 Madrigals for Violin and Viola, H. 313, a work that marries Czech folk influences with modernist innovation. An intricate dialogue between violin and viola by Kevin Zhu and Roman Spitzer.

Poulenc’s Sonata for Horn, Trumpet and Trombone follows, rearranged for flügelhorn, trombone, and bass trombone by Sergei Nakariakov, Elias Faingersch, and David Taylor. In other words, a dynamic and daring blend of brass timbres.

Händel’s Passacaglia for Violin and Cello, arranged by Halvorsen, is a breathtaking display of virtuosic expression, performed by Kristóf Baráti and Zvi Plesser.

After intermission, the program culminates with Franck’s monumental Piano Quintet in F Minor, brought to life by Kristóf Baráti, Kevin Zhu, Roman Spitzer, Zvi Plesser, and Maria Meerovitch, ending the evening on a note of sublime intensity.

The Grand Concerto is a journey through the heart of chamber music, from the intimacy of duos to the grandeur of the piano quintet. This evening is not only a feast for the ears but a treasure for the soul and a gem for your memory.
