Palatul Ghica
The Ghika domain covers cca. 1.000 sqm and the associated terrain (made up of annexes, courtyard, gardens and alleys) measure up to 11.000 sqm. From what we know, the entrance used to be guarded by two sculpted lions on both sides of the Palace's entrance.Above the gate's pillars there are two magnificent eagles that seem to look forever up into the sky. The front courtyard of the Palace is impressive because of the old tea trees, that seem to open up the way to a very special place. The Palace - situated in the middle of the domain between the chapel (the Ghica Tei Church used to belong to the domain) and the annexes - is made of basement, ground floor, upper floor and attic. Conceived as a perfectly symetrical architectural plan, the Palace appears to be very balanced and set up in two different themes: 1. the inferior theme, with rectangular voids, flanked by strong wholes; 2. the superior theme, higher, with centered voids, flanked by corinthyian pillars and arches.Ghika Palace - history The Ghika Palace is one of the oldest Bucharest palaces.Situated closed to the crossroad of Lacul Tei Bdul. with Doamna Ghica Street, the Ghika Palace encloses the south side of lake Plumbuita. The Palace is built in the well-known new-classical style of the Italian architecture, with a touch of French Renascence, according to the western trends of the 19th century.
